Hotel Review: Moscow Savoy Hotel

Moscow hotel reviews moscow savoy hotel 5 star hotels moscow

When writing a hotel review I always try to be subjective and offer both the plusses and the minuses but with the Moscow Savoy hotel I find it hard to think up any minuses.

The Moscow Savoy hotel is a five star hotel which deserves every one of the stars. The building itself is an attraction, built in 1913 it glows with gold leave and chandeliers, the Rocco décor will take you back to a luxurious era when hotels looked like palaces. The rooms are not enormous but are large enough, as well as having very high ceilings which make the rooms seem spacious. The bathrooms are both functional and decorative, the extras which make you really feel pampered in a five star hotel are all there. Every room has bath robes, slippers as well as a very wide range of bathroom products all by L'Occitane these include a shaving kit, toothbrush, vanity kit, shoe mit and the usual shampoo, conditioned, cream and shower gel. There is no expense spared to provide little extras to make your stay at the Moscow Savoy an indulgent experience.

On arriving you will have bottles of mineral water waiting in the room, in the evening there is a turn-down service with chocolates on the pillows and the following evening we were delighted to find a bottle of champagne and a platter of fresh fruit!!

Staff and service

The Moscow Savoy staff is all in uniform and perform their duties with quiet elegance, the reception staff made sure we knew what services were included and which were not as well as providing information about transport and tourist attractions. Even the 24 hour room service went above and beyond to provide exactly the food we wanted even though it wasn't on the menu and it was 4 am!

Moscow Savoy Hotel

Moscow is an enormous city but their metro system provides easy access to all areas of the city, so although the Moscow Savoy is within 10 minutes walking distance from the Kremlin and main tourist attractions there is also a metro stop right outside the hotel which can get you to wherever you need to go. The Moscow Savoy hotel is very central and takes about 40 minutes to reach by taxi from the airport.

The Moscow Savoy Hotel has an indoor swimming pool, sauna and gym which are all included in the room price. There are also other health and beauty treatments which you can experience for a fee in the Savoy beauty center. To one side of the lobby is a relaxing bar which is open until late at night, and although there is no live music, gentle classics are played in the background. There is free WiFi at the Moscow Savoy as well as a large business center with several computers and facilities for printing and sending faxes. There is a staff member on hand to help with any booking or technical issues. The drawback is that use of the hotel computers costs 15 Rubles a minute.

Moscow Savoy Hotel

Perhaps the best hotel breakfast I have ever had, there is a wide selection of foods including, porridge, stewed fruit, grilled vegetables, salads, cheeses, yogurt, potato fritters, four juices, eggs, cold meats and if you wish an omlette of your choice will be prepared. You can even indulge in a glass of Champaign with your breakfast.

The only reason not to stay at the Moscow Savoy is perhaps the price, the lowest Savoy rack rate is 9500 Rubles ($350) for a classic double room however there are lower rates online which you can find through Hotels Combined. I paid $213 per night for a classic double room at the Moscow Savoy, using Hotels Combined.
